Weekly Project Check-ins

As this project was made individually, with no group, I decided to record weekly check-ups with myself to keep track of everything I needed to do and have done. This helped me when writing my final evaluation and giving people explanations on all of my work by having evidence. 

Getting Permission To Use My Song

Getting permission to use a song publicly is vital when using it within your project, so you cannot get copyright claimed by the Artist or Record Company. When it came to researching who I needed to contact, I soon found out everyone involved, with the writing and performance of the song, is deceased. With the certain version I am using, currently it is not known who I would have to contact in order to use this song. I am using the Original Version which is not the Version from Avengers Endgame. This means that I cannot approach the film company with this situation either. I decided to use my product for educational reasons, instead of having the goal for it to go viral. I still posted the Project to YouTube, but for copyright reasons, I gave credit in the description of the video. YouTube has also taken property of the video meaning if it ever went viral, I cannot make money off it and there will have to be Adverts before the beginning of the video. I am happy with this outcome because it still gives the video a chance to be seen publicly.

I also decided to still post the video to TikTok. TikTok has a policy that videos and music, not owned by you, can be

uploaded onto the app as

long as it has the TikTok

Watermark if downloaded.

I have been able to use

On the day of filming, I sat down with my two Actors and spoke through the camera angles and story direction I wanted to take for my Music Video. This gave me a chance to discuss with the two what they have to do in each scene and why we are doing it. Doing this, helped them to connect with the storyline to make it less acted and more instinct/improvised. The two Actors are Husband and Wife in real life as well as on screen. This was perfect for the development of chemistry I wanted to see from them on screen. To get them in the serous loved up mood, I discussed how they would be feeling in each scene.

This was the first audience I showed my video to. The first and second draft had no credits or finished transitions. None the less, I wanted to get some feedback on the rough outline of the storyline and order of footage, so I knew if I needed to adjust anything. Thankfully, they were both overly fond of the Music Video and they said it made them smiled which was the main goal for this project. With my final draft approved I then went onto adding the final adjustments and edits to complete the video.

These messages were taken from the app Instagram. On there, me and my 3 friends, have a College Group Chat discussing our own projects and progress to each other.

The feedback I got from Lucy was exactly the response I was looking for when creating this Music Video. I am glad she picked up on my camera techniques and angles, as for this project I wanted to mostly focus on improving my Technical Skills sector of my work. This shows the improvement payed off. When discussing the feedback with her, it did seem like she loved the 50's editing style, but she did not know the reasoning behind it. This was the same for everyone which has made me realise that the Audience is more focused on how good it looks, rather than the fact it is 50's style to suit the song's Era.

For constructive criticism, she spoke a bit about my masking effect used to cover the number plates. When using the Adobe Software, I did not take enough care with ensuring the blurred boxes disappear at the right timeframe. I had already handed in and uploaded my video before noticing my masking fault. She also spoke about the number of glitches throughout the video. I myself are quite disappointed with these to. It prevent the Music Video from looking professional. Unfortunately, it is a software problem caused by me rendering and exporting the video through a free Adobe app. I had the exact same problem with the last project and it could not be resolved without using another software. Next time, I will film using a camera instead of a phone, so I can edit using Premiere Pro in College.

Izzie spoke her voice in place for the Audience. She predicted that everyone watching, would love the song and video, making them smile. She again did touch up on the fact she loved the black and white effect, but she also spoke about the acting. What I found most helpful about this storyline is the fact my two Actors are perfect mirror representations for the husband and wife. My parents were acting out how they would react to being with each other again after a while. The realism and chemistry showed on screen and it seems Izzie picked up on it.

Hannah's feedback focused on the technical side of my Music Video. She started by saying how relatable this video was for the time it was released. I focused my Music Video based on my research results on what makes people smile, which was lockdown ending. At the time, people were relating mostly to that and it was important to them. so I wanted to shed some light on the topic and give people hope and happiness at the thought of seeing their family again.

When we discussed the black and white colour grading of the video Hannah was the one to understand the meaning behind the effect. She said 'it matches the song perfectly'. The use of the filter was to accompany the song as it was written in the 50's when TV was mostly B&W.

Same as Izzie, she touched up on the box and glitch issues. With two people now picking up on it, it becomes a big problem as it means it is too noticeable. To fix this issue, I will look into using a different software and uploading a fixed version of the Video at a later date, during leisure time.

Feedback From TikTok:

It was important to me, when gathering feedback, that I ask from many different platforms and age ranges of people. This is because, friends cant always present the brutal honesty that you need. The only downside to TikTok is that there is a word limit in the comments, therefore most of the feedback is only a couple of words or sentences. None the less, it still gave me an idea of how a wider ranged Audience feels about the storyline, topic and song choice.
